Dal is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India the urban lake, which is second largest in the union territory, is integral tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the "Lake of Flowers", "Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir", or "Srinagar's Jewel". Dal Lake is famous not only for its beauty but for its
vibrance, because it sustains within its periphery. The houseboat and Shikara communities have lived for centuries on Dal, and so complete is their infrastructure on the lake, that they never have to step on land!
